Former leadership candidate announces support for Boris Johnson

Appearing on last night’s BBC TV debate, Boris Johnson stressed the importance of delivering Brexit on time, uniting the country and moving forward with a positive agenda, saying:

“We are in a national political crisis. We have a responsibility to deliver Brexit on the 31st October. This is the only way we can bring our country together and deliver a positive agenda to improve people’s lives with better education, better infrastructure and better technology.”

He stressed that he is the only candidate who will deliver Brexit on time on the 31st October rather than kicking the can again, saying:

“We have to prepare for no deal and get ready to get out.

“None of us want a no-deal outcome but we have to prepare for that eventuality.

“We have to get out on October 31st.”

He added:

“In London for the lowest paid I introduced the London living wage. That was then adopted by George Osborne.

“We need to cut taxes for the poorest in society and take the lowest paid out people out of national insurance.

“And we need to raise the threshold at which those start paying the highest rate. It’s not right that nurses, heads of departments in schools, police inspectors pay the higher rate of tax.”

Former leadership candidate announces support for Boris Johnson

Former leadership candidate Dominic Raab has today backed Boris to be Conservative Party Leader and Prime Minister, describing him as the “only man to deliver Brexit on time”.

Dominic Raab told The Evening Standard:

“We must leave the EU on October 31 — we’ve had enough delays and we need to get on with it so we can deliver on the task the British people gave us as politicians."

“The only candidate who will now do this is Boris Johnson — and so I’ll be supporting him to become our next Prime Minister.”

“Boris will make sure we leave the EU on time and move on to uniting the country behind a positive programme where everyone can benefit from the UK’s success.”

Education Minister Nadhim Zahawi also announced he would be supporting Boris, telling BBC’s Today Programme:

"When the party was 17 points behind in London, Boris Johnson won in London. Boris Johnson will be the candidate that can win in the whole country, untie the party and the country, defeat Jeremy Corbyn and put Nigel Farage back in his box. That’s what Boris Johnson will do."

Tom Pursglove announced he will be backing Boris, saying:

“I'm convinced that only Boris Johnson will deliver a proper Brexit by the 31st October - come what may.”

Chris Green said:

“The next vote for leader of the Conservatives will be later today and I announced on BBC Radio Manchester that I will be backing Boris Johnson He delivered for London and now I want him to deliver for the whole United Kingdom.”
