Boris unveils 'Payback London'
On Tuesday 25th March, Boris went to Fulham to launch 'Payback London'.
The scheme launched with the aid of Conservative GLA Candidate for West Central, Kit Malthouse, will result in under-18s having their bus passes withdrawn for breaking the Behaviour Code and to earn it back, they will need to engage in Community Service, the objective being to break the stranglehold which anti-social behaviour has over many of London's bus routes.
Speaking at the launch, Boris said: "As I visit London Boroughs, there is one thing that continues to stand out in every area, whether Hillingdon or Harrow, Edmonton or Enfield - and that is the abuse of free travel by a minority of young people on our buses. It is unacceptable that in some parts of London, buses are intimidating places.
"While the concept of free travel for teenagers has been a good thing, Mayor Livingstone has shown he has lost touch in failing to tackle those who abuse this privilege.
"Under a Johnson Mayoralty, the passes will be taken away and only given back when community service has taken place. I will end the something-for-nothing society culture for those who abuse it."
