Boris visits Pimlico Plumbers
Boris visited the HQ of Pimlico Plumbers this morning to tour their offices, workshops and training facilities.
Boris met a group of young people from the charity Prospex who are undertaking a one-day taster apprenticeship with Pimlico Plumbers. Prospex is a youth organisation which gives people opportunities to broaden their horizons and supports them to fulfil their true potential.
This is the kind of forward thinking, opportunity based organisation that could be supported and championed by the future Mayor's Fund for London.
Speaking to Backboris.com after enjoying elevenses with Charlie Mullins, the owner of Pimlico Plumbers, and other plumbers Boris said:
"The mayor is responsible for ensuring Londoners have the access to the skills training they need. We cannot accept the current situation where more than half of Londoners do not have the numeric skills expected of an 11 year old.
"We need to increase adult education opportunities and Londoners' awareness of these opportunities. That is why I will introduce a Mayor's Fund for London to champion the voluntary sector and provide young people will the skills and direction they are currently lacking."
