Lambeth
Lambehitha 1062, Lamhytha 1089, Lambhythe c. 1150, Lambeth 1255, 'landing place for lambs', that is a harbour to or from which they were shipped, from Old English lamb and hyth. The name Lambeth is pronounced as it is spelt, an interesting reminder that in Old English the 'b' in the word lamb was not a silent letter.
