City of London

Not strictly speaking a borough, City is actually a municipal corporation. The usage of 'The City' began at the end of the 16th Century, as in Shakespeare's "Know you not the Citie fauors them?" (3 Henry VI, 1.i.67, dated 1593). The City of London, is defined by its ancient boundaries and is often referred to as 'The Square Mile'.

London is also desperate to shake off the shackles of the current incumbent and get rid of the taxes, the burdens, the controls and the failings that see Londoners become ever more insignificant compared to the people who run this city."
